The Solution to Scott Adams' Graphic Adventure RETURN TO PIRATE'S ISLE by Joe Waters and Barry Boone updated, edited and error-corrected by Michael Javorka (majestyx@hotmail.com) on 8-July-2006 including complete solution (better late than never) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks to the Win994a simulator by Cory Burr, I am finally able to do what I failed to do back in 1984 when I first bought this game with my allowance money, and that is to solve it. Much of the solution is from the only file I was able to find online which still missed two treasures. The missing pieces were filled in by the clue sheet for the game made by Adventure International. So here is the COMPELTE solution for anyone who may still care! (Note: This article was originally published in the March 1988 issue of THE COMPUTER VOICE, newsletter of the Southern California Computer group.) This was done for all the TIers who are fed up with this game. The following commands should be typed in exactly as they appear. Remember to save your game often (as we found out the hard way). If you want to play the game without the pictures press "Z". To restore the pictures do the same. Good luck! Note: The alarm clock ringing is there to alert you that there is a part of the ship not accessible from within the boat. Once you find this hidden part of the boat and pick up the clock, it stops ringing. Otherwise, you will be stuck much later in the game, unable to start the engine with a dead battery and no way to charge it. Did you ever find that one? Even though it's not an official treasure, it sound like it could be a fun item to find since it sounds very mysterious! ------------- Answer: I didn't find it, but then, I wasn't looking for it since it has no bearing on the game. I think if you touch the silt in different locations underwater, you will find one. But since it serves no purpose, it's just another item that takes up space in your inventory. And let's face it, interactive fiction this game is not. There's really no plot to this game. It's just a scavenger hunt. While the smashed oyster may seem mysterious, it's just another "set dressing" item, such as the Flotsam and Jetsam in the open waters. Oh, if you pick up a snail and drop it anywhere but the water, it will become a dead snail. Just make sure you do this AFTER you've used it to open the oyster. And if you drop the oyster and snail in the water, it will appear in every above-water location, including the pool of water in the smuggler's hold of the boat. And one more thing - you can probably get the doubloons BEFORE setting sail for the other island, making a return trip unnecessary. I left it the way it is since that's how the original solution was. In fact, it will probably make the solution a bit shorter.
